A California couple was shocked to discover a pet sitter threw their puppy to the ground.
Amanda Roy and her husband never expected the sitter they hired to harm their puppy, Lucy.
Surveillance video from the couple’s home shows the woman carrying the dog before slamming her to the floor.
A motion alert on the home security camera allowed the couple to watch the incident in real time, and the husband yelled at the woman to leave.
The sitter apologized and left, but now animal control is looking into the incident.
“It’s heartbreaking because the reason we use a pet sitter is because we love our pet and we don’t want to leave her unattended for very long because she is a baby,” Amanda Roy told local ABC affiliate KABC. “So, we trusted someone to come into our home and look after a pet that we consider a family member.”
The sitter was hired through an app called Rover that connects dog sitters and walkers to owners. The company issued the following statement about the incident:
“The activity depicted in this video is shocking and appalling,” Rover said. “We have permanently deactivated this sitter from our platform and will continue to investigate. Any incident of this nature is extremely rare on our platform, and we take it very seriously.”
Rover said it has offered to pay any veterinarian bills that may have resulted from the puppy being thrown and is assisting local law enforcement with their investigation.
